The aim of The Ariadne Project is simple - to perform a full "pop-up" opera with orchestra for the general public, giving many talented artists a rare opportunity to showcase their abilities in a major city. This would be the first time (as far as we know) that an opera would be independently crowd-funded without any backing from a parent company.

Any money that is donated goes directly to the performance and the performers themselves instead of an endowment that is significantly burdened by corporate expenses.

Ariadne auf Naxos is one of the most beloved operas by Richard Strauss. The plot of the opera focuses on the juxtaposition of serious, "high art" versus comedic "low art." These two opposing styles end up colliding onstage in very humorous and meaningful ways.

2014 marks what would have been Strauss' 150th Birthday. The singers and musicians involved in this project wish to present this piece in celebration of this anniversary. A concert performance of the opera will happen in August 2014 in New York City with your help and generous support. If this production and performance model succeeds, it will be a new way for artists to interact with the community and may help to save the wonderful art form of opera from going extinct. We wish to keep singing for you and to keep these wonderful masterworks alive for generations to come!
